Gareth’s eye has shaped films, documentaries, commercials and music videos across two decades. Unusually, his path to the camera started with screenwriting and editing — a background that gives his work an intuitive understanding of the cinematic language. His credits span all genres, screening worldwide and earning awards. Directors cherish their collaboration with Gareth not just for the images he creates, but for how he shapes the story around them.
In his own words:
“My love for cinematography stems from the power films had on me since a young age. Stories unleashed my imagination and deepened my curiosity about existence. Later I realized that without light there is no life.
Cinematography is more than an art form – it is a way of observing the world, as well as a window into humanity and what makes us who we are.
My portfolio includes films, documentaries, commercials and music videos, some of which have earned awards and been featured in publications such as the British Cinematographer magazine. Most notably, I worked on Stranger Things, South Park and the summer box office hit Sound Of Freedom.
Creating images and traveling are my biggest passions, while music gives rhythm to it all. Discovering the world is a phenomenal source of inspiration and a way of staying grounded, open-minded and connected. I've visited 52 countries, worked on 5 continents and get around in 5 languages.
Born in Switzerland of a Swiss mother and British/American father, I grew up exposed to different cultures and was fortunate to travel around Europe and Northern Africa at a young age - all of which had a strong impact on my growing consciousness.
After moving to California, I studied screenwriting and directing. I picked up a 35mm camera and started shooting photos. It wasn’t long before I merged these passions, and along with a fascination for lighting, I became a cinematographer.
Over time I find myself more connected and understanding of the importance storytelling carries in human culture. The love and passion keep growing as the projects become more ambitious.”
